The purpose of this article is to assess the various hereditary, anatomic, articular, and, especially, functional factors that can contribute to the development of anterior open bites. Evebn though these contibutors frequently overlap, orthodontists should make every effort to determine the specific causes of an open bite in order to develop an effective treatment plan for correcting it.
